You should also put a note inside the package saying it is for the EF

Winter Update #17: Packing Potluck Recap |
|
Written by Josh Seamon

Tuesday, 23 January 2007 |
Packing Potluck - 1/23/07
So, who had fun the packing
potluck? I know I did. ;)
The food was great, the mass migration up the stairs was entertaining,
and the turnout was spectacular. With 35 trip participants and over 35
parents and other relatives, there were over 70 people in attendance!
The big, overall point that you should have taken from the meeting is pack well and pack smart.
After our run through of all of those situations, you all should have a
pretty good idea of what you could improve on.
Remember,
our last all-group meeting is on Friday, 2/16 at 7am in Severance 21.
Here is the list of situations
we ran through tonight:
1) We get to the bus to leave -- Passport
Check
2) We have hike to the airport check in line -- Hike one loop
3) You're checking in -- Passport
Check
4) We're on the flight and
you're bored out of your mind -- Your in-fight entertainment is?
5) We arrive in Athens, there are LOTS of bags -- How is yours marked?
6) We need to pay for something that costs 50 Euros -- How do you pay for it?
7) Your luggage is lost -- Packing
list, 2 days worth of clothing w/someone else
7) We're going through customs -- Passport
Check
8) We're at our first meal -- Did
you get the right kind? (Veg check)
9) It's the second day and you're primary source of funds is gone -- Your backup?
10) We're crossing into Italy -- Passport
Check
11) We're walking around in a city and it starts raining HARD -- Rain gear check
12) We're on a tour and you get completely lost -- What do you do? Hotel/Itinerary
check
13) We're crossing into France -- Passport
check
14) We get to Chamonix and
we're staying in a HUGE 2 story hotel w/no Elevator -- Two laps
15) Someone comes up to you and speaks a foreign language -- Phrase book check
16) It's time to collect tips -- Got
yours in a separate envelope?
17) We're crossing into Switzerland -- Passport check
If
anyone has any situations they'd like to add to the list, send them
over. Also, if you have any pieces of info you'd like to share with the
group about packing, or anything else for that matter, send those over
to me as well.
Pictures from tonight's activities are now online in the gallery.

Winter Update #16: Reminders and a video |

011707-WinterUpdate
In 36 days we're off! Wow.
The main thing you should be preparing for at this point is the 1/23
packing potluck. Remember that you must show up FULLY packed with EVERYTHING
you plan on bringing on the trip along with a dinner item to share. We
will start promptly at 6pm, so please show up around 5:45. While you
are packing it is VERY
important that you keep the master
packing list and the
ABC's of European travel documents in mind. If you plan on
bringing a dessert item instead of a dinner item, please let me know. Parents
are encouraged to be at this event.
Our final all-group
morning meeting will be on Friday, 2/16 at 7am in Severance 21.
Out
of the 294 items I need to collect from trip participants, only 8 have
yet to be turned in. Right now I am only missing items from Laynie
Bartolomeo, Liz Coffin, Johnathan Sheehan, Elliot Stafford, and Jeff
Wu. Remember, if you
haven't turned
in your missing items by the end of the day today you will be assigned
daily detention until you've turned in your missing items. I
don't like having to resort to detention, but everyone has had several
months to submit their items.
I've
been updating the phone tree over the past week. If you haven't done so
already, please look over the phone tree and let me know if any
information needs to be changed or updated.
The images from this post are from a video made on 1/10/07 by a skier
in Chamonix. You can watch the video right
here. Even thought we probably won't be going that high up
into the mountains, I thought it would be nice to show you that other
parts of the world have a good amount of snow.

Winter Update #13: A Few Updates |
|
Written by Josh Seamon
|
|
Wednesday, 03 January 2007 |
I've sent out alot of
information over the past couple days. I know it's rather daunting to
get through, but it's really important that everyone reads through
everything I send out. I've just made a couple more updates to the
site. I posted one more hotel
we'll be staying at and I put a page up with all of our flight info. Please
check over the Flight
Info page and
make sure your name is spelled correctly!
Also remember that I expect every trip participant to make
at least one post to mrseamon.com in the next few days. It's really
easy to do. Just follow these
steps. It doesn't really matter what you say -- I just want
you to post something. I am having you do this for two reasons: I want
to make sure you know how to make a post on your own, and I want to see
who is actually reading all of the information I am spending so much
time putting together and sending out.

Winter Update #12: The ABC's of European Travel |

The ABCs of European Travel
My EF Tour Consultant was nice
enough to email me a wonderful document
titled "The ABCs of European Travel." The document was originally
written by an EF Group Leader who was leading a trip to Germany and
Austria. I have gone through the document and adapted it to our trip.
If you notice any inconsistencies between the document and what I have
said in the past, or flat our errors, please let me know. All trip participants are
required to read this document.
Click on 'Read More' to see the document. I have also emailed the
document in word form to our google group mailing list.

Winter Update #11 - Trip Updates
I hope everyone has been enjoying their holiday break and has been
getting ready for the last sprint to February 22nd! Can you believe we
leave in just 50 days?
Here's what you need to know:
1) Our packing potluck meeting
will take place on Tuesday,
January 23rd from 6 to 8pm
in the Streeter Function room located at the back of the dining hall.
Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. Each trip participant
will be required to bring two things: a dinner item to share with the
rest of the group.... and.... their luggage, FULLY PACKED! This is
important: All
trip participants MUST show up at 6pm SHARP, FULLY PACKED.
Fully packed means that you'll have everything with you that you plan
on bringing to Europe. Everything.
2) I am currently missing items from Laynie Bartolomeo, David Cairns,
Elizabeth Coffin, Ryan Knopf, Sean Mahoney, Becky McDowell, Johnathan
Sheehan, Elliot Stafford, and Felisha Villeneuve. Head on over to the
Forms
Checklist page to see exactly what you're missing. I would
consider it a personal second Christmas if all of your missing items
were turned in by the end of the day on Friday, January 12th.
3) We will have a last all
group meeting sometime between January 23rd
and February 22nd. This meeting will most likely be in the morning or
on a Sunday afternoon/evening. Meeting details will be sent out in the
next couple weeks.
4) The deadline for purchasing the all inclusive insurance plan has
passed. You can still purchase baggage and or medical insurance up to
the day before we leave. You can purchase and find out more
about these plans by calling EF at 1-800-665-5364.
5) A little over half of you have created accounts on MrSeamon.com. If
you have yet to make an account, please do so now. It's easy. It'll
take 30 seconds at the most. To create an account click on the 'create
one' link in the login module on the left. Enter
your first and last names,
separated by a space, in the 'Name' and
'Username' fields (The
same thing in both fields!). You must also enter
a valid email address. After you create an account a verification email
will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.
Verify your account by clicking on the link in the email. Some of you
have created an account but have yet to verify it by clicking on the
link in the verification email. Your account will not work until you
click on that link. If you haven't received the verification email,
check your spam folder. If you can't find the email anywhere, email me.
6) Everyone
needs to make a post on MrSeamon.com. To do this you need
to have a verified account. After you have a verified account, follow
the steps outlined on the How
to Make a Post page. Note:
If you have a verified account and the 'Submit News' button isn't
showing up, that's because I haven't gotten around to giving your account the
proper permissions. If this is the case, email me and tell me to set
the permissions :)
That's it for now. More information will be coming your way soon.

Winter Update #9: Montreal Recap |
|
Written by Josh Seamon

Wednesday, 13 December 2006 |
 |
Pictures are now up from our
trip to Montreal in the gallery.
If you took pictures on the trip, either email them over (if they're
small enough) or burn them to disc, bring them to me in school, and
I'll put them online. Here's a brief recap of our trip:
All three green buses took off from St. Johnsbury at a little past 8am
and arrived in Montreal after a smooth drive north west at around
10:40. We then headed two blocks over to Basilica Notre Dame where we
first changed money and then spent 30 minutes exploring. In addition to
seeing the gorgeous main cathedral, we made out way around back to the
smaller additional chapel that is a mix of neogothic and contemporary
architecture.
We then headed north to Saint Catherine street where we set our meeting
point and then broke for lunch. After lunch we walked a few
blocks south and spent an hour skating at the Le1000 rink, a small
indoor facility that was nice and warm. Everyone had a great time
showing off how good and not so good they were at skating. Next we
walked back up to St. Catherine street and everyone spread out to enjoy
their 4 hours of free time. Some students saw a movie in the
magnificent theater, some went to laser tag, and other groups shopped
and explored. We met back up at 7:15 and made our way back to the buses
only to find that the parking lot was completely full of cars... and we
were boxed in. After the attendant moved several cars around, and three
many-point turns, all three green buses were free of the lot and we
were back on the road. On our way back we stopped once briefly to gas
up and pick up snacks and then again to talk to the friendly border
agents. After another smooth ride we made it back into St. Johnsbury at
11pm. |
