We held a fundraising meeting this morning. Here's what we decided to focus on:
Write a variety day proposal: Mary Fitzgerald and Dr. Sayarath Raffle/Bake sale at the STJ/LI game and possibly others - Rachel Vear and Abby, talk to Mrs. Choiniere Tag Sale: Who would like to organize this? Medical Supplies: Phipps (Lisa) Vear will be working with Dr. Sayarath Business sponsorship: Alex Rogers and Hilton - donation template letter Gardener's Supply Flower Power: Online fundraiser, Lori Parsons
Please let me know if you'd like to be involved in any of these fundraising activities.
I'm in the process of making these activities official. Right now we are in the proposal-writing and information-gather phase.

The first fundraising meeting will be on Tuesday, 9/7 from 7:30 to 7:45am in SV21. All fundraising captains are required to attend if able. We will be discussing how we will start our campaign. Any other trip participants that would like to help organize our fundraising efforts are welcome to attend.

There is a mandatory meeting for all South East Asia trip participants on Thursday, 9/2 from 7-8pm in Fuller Basement. All trip participants are required to attend. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.

I hope you all have been enjoying your summer vacation. I sure have!
Here's where things stand on next year's trip to South East Asia:
+ITINERARY
The trip itinerary can be downloaded from this page. Our tour company (Four Winds) is arranging everything except our service work in Laos. I am very excited to experience this itinerary!
+PASSPORT
Everyone must have a passport that expires after 6/10/11. If you currently do not have a passport that meets this requirement, please start the process of getting one right now. Please reply to this email immediately and let me know the status of your passport.
+DEPOSIT
Your $100 deposit will become non-refundable on September, 1st at 10am.
+TRIP COST
The trip cost will be between $3,250 and $3,750. I will have a more exact price by the end of next week after our preliminary flight reservations have been made.
+TRIP PAYMENTS
The trip fee will be made in three equal installments of ~$1,150. The payments will be due on 9/24, 11/23, and 12/17.
+SERVICE WORK
Our service work will last 5-7 days and occur in Vien Tien, the capitol of Laos. More details will soon be available.
+TRIP DATES
We are projected to leave on Thursday, 2/27/11 and return on Saturday, 3/5/11.

A note about insurance

You do not have to have travel insurance purchased at this point in the trip process.
You can put down that you plan on purchasing insurance when you fill out the Insurance Letter form.
Remember that all trip paperwork and the $100 deposit check are due by 3pm this Friday.

The trip paperwork and $100 deposit are both due by Friday, 5/28 at 3pm. All materials should be handed off to Mr. Seamon in SV21.
The STJA admin group is meeting on 6/1 to approve trip participants. Only those people that have submitted paperwork and a deposit check will have their names submitted to the group for approval.

If you are interested in participating in next year's trip to South East Asia, here is what you need to do:
1) Make sure you have signed up for the email list.
3) Fill out and hand in all of the paperwork by Friday, May 28th.
4) Submit a deposit check for $100 made out to St. Johnsbury Academy by Friday, May 28th. This deposit will be fully refundable until September, 1.
5) Pay close attention to your email. Many important updates will be sent out in the next two weeks.
6) Talk the trip up to all your friends!
All paperwork and checks should be handed to Mr. Seamon in Severance 21 any time during conference period.
On the evening of May 28th I will be submitting the list of names to the Academy of all of the students who have submited their paperwork and deposit checks. The Academy will then vet each student for approval to participate in the trip. The vetting process should be complete by the second week in June at the latest.

Next February break, Dr. Sayarath and Mr. Seamon will be leading a group of St. Johnsbury Academy students on a 17-day tour through Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. All trip information will be posted on this site.
